Thoughts on Sin
I am a Christian, not a preacher, priest, or minister. The Bible teaches not to judge, not to condemn, love your neighbor as yourself.
I can’t say my comprehension is ideal. I try to invest in things like support for the community and World Peace. Christianity teaches that sin is the root of many problems in life. As some from an engineering background I like to fix problems, I try to fix problems, I don’t always assess problems correctly, I don’t always fix problems correctly, I don’t always get things right on the first try – debuggers are useful, QA is useful.
I can’t say I agree with all things from The Bible. Different Churches have different numbers of books, and it at least seems like they have the potential to highlight different important aspects that aren’t always aligned with each other.
The Bible teaches all have fallen short of the glory of God. Thus we are in a fallen world where sin is a reality.
The Bible teaches see no evil. Can’t say I ideally comprehend it. If I see no evil – then if there is a problem I can’t fix it. Yet again not seeing evil equates to less temptation to judge it, less temptation to judge it based upon less than ideal knowledge and comprehension. Not around evil also has the potential to be less tempting – not seeing sin, not knowing it exists might lead to less sin. Not seeing evil might equate to less temptation to see useful parts of it, if the line on it in gray areas.
Less sin in the World would equate to less problems in the World. Engineers likely test building materials many times because they want to make sure the product is not broken, will hold up, will be closer to perfection, will be more sin free. Like if you buy a new car and it has a flat tire almost immediately – the flat tire could lead to feelings of not a square deal, anger, tempts that might not exist if the tire is solid.
Yet one that sees no evil might just say that is just the run of the luck. That same person that sees no evil might not give feedback or might give all ideal feedback to do right by the company, yet that might not do right by other consumers. Golden Rule – treat others as you wish to be treated – has potential to amplify in different ways between different Christians – with varying levels of sin and temptations created.
Should one invest in less sin at all if they are less than ideal, not fully perfect? Christians take communion, ask God for forgiveness, yet there are many times LTIs – less than ideals that are built into the system, the way we work, the way we live that are unlikely to lead to ideal perfection. Thus I think investment, even from a place of imperfection is a step in the right direction. Beats saying just give up, world is fallen always will be fallen, at least in most cases.
People disagree on which sins are the most important in society. Where time is spent factors into potential for better. I can project how a society will look with too much lust, sloth, envy, or greed? No. There are many new technologies, there is allot of data that is inconsistent, built on lies, relevance limited – transparency is not ideal and NDAs – non disclosure agreements are pretty much the norm for many companies.
Unable to project how a society will look based upon which sins might be see less evil, less temptation to judge from a place of less than ideal perfection. Without sin cast the first stone has value, has value in divesting from judgment or even seeing sin as a form of risk management.
That said less sin has value. What are appropriate levels, too high of bar could be miserable – might reinforce prideful judgment and condemnation like The Scarlet Letter or The Boston Witch trials. Amplifying a society with less injustice and time valued greater is something worth turning up, factors into The Golden Rule for both self and others.
Some sins might seem like no big deal. Yet small lies or small things left undone could be game changing. No reminder for Human Rights and World Peace might be less investment, less desire to invest, less feeling of need to invest, matters to invest, help is needed in investing. Thus small problems have the potential to become big problems that might march us all closer to war – and seeing as Blessed are the Peacemakers – it seems worthy of turning up.
Blessed is kind of like prayers being answered by God in my opinion. Maybe if Human Rights were better protected, if there was less oppression, strife and turmoil in the World we might see more prayers answered. I am not God, I don’t know what bar is used for what prayers are answered and what ones are not. I would prefer a World where no children get cancer, where no bombs are dropped on children – yet that is not the World we live in.
The Bible says judge not lest the be judged. Someone judging you might feel like SinA and SinB need to be addressed, yet you might be wanting to fix SinC and SinD. Judgment has the potential to amplify other judgment – and both judgments have potential to be made from less than ideal comprehension, and less than ideal altruistic motives – profit and support factor into which sins are addressed, when and how.
That said a society with less SinA, SinB, SinC, and SinD might be more profitable for all, might be more Golden Rule for all, yet is that actually a society we are turning up, we choose to turn up, we are turning up by practice, choices, and systemic design?
Not all Christians agree on what is sin and what is not. Not all Christians agree on which sins are important to address and which ones are not. If all should be addressed, in what order they should be addressed – order matters – relevance is limited by distance in time.
As a US Citizen I believe in Freedom of Speech and I believe in Freedom of Religion. That means there are different religions and levels of belief that all have different priorities on what problems are important to fix in society. The combination is consequential yet not fully comprehensible from where I am standing. You can have a different religion, Freedom of Religion – but you have to agree with me doesn’t seem wise to turn up. That said people that work together and are less divided on what are problems and what are not is valuable – yet not always known by all, which means there is detriment in knowing less at times, having less access to what matters and what doesn’t at any particular time in history.
Writing a document does not equate to capacity to post a document. Writing a document does not equal a posted document. Writing a document does not equal a document read, comprehended, and acted upon. Access is a temporary system that is taken for granted at times. People in jails or prison have less access to post documents like this to help the World, have less potential to read documents like this to help the World. Less access is consequential, might not turn up the future in ideal ways.
