Red Blood Cells (Erythrocytes) of a New Born Infant or Perinatal Fetus are destroyed prematurely resulting in Anemia.

Happens when blood types of Mother and Baby are incompatible.

A Blood type is dependent upon certain Antigens that are either present or absent.

Incompatibility happens when the Baby has an antigen that the Mother does not have. The Mother’s immune system interprets the antigen as foreign and thus produces antibodies to target the cells carrying the antigen for destruction. While in principle it can happen between a mismatch in any blood group, severe cases most commonly occur with mismatch in the D antigen of the Rh System. Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn (HDN) can occur when the Mother’s blood has blood with no D antigen and the New Born has blood with a D antigen.

The first pregnancy is usually not at risk. This is because the placenta normally does a good job separating the Mother’s blood from the Fetal blood. Thus preventing the Fetal blood from being exposed to the Mother’s immune system.

In the cases of Birth, Miscarriage, and Abortion the tearing of the placenta can expose the Mother’s blood to Fetal blood thus causing antibodies to be produced by the Mother. Antibody production takes sometime so it does not affect the first baby.

If the Mother becomes pregnant with another Rh+ (has the D-antigen), the Mother’s blood now has the antibodies and HDN may occur. The antibodies able to cross the placenta can now cause hemolysis.

Blood transfusions, Sharing Needles, or Medical Procedures can lead to the antibody being present in the first pregnancy.

Anemia can cause Heart Failure, Respiratory Distress, and Edema.

Infants with HDN can develop Anemia.

Infants with HDN can develop Brain Damage (kernicterus) due to bilirubin being toxic to brain tissue.

Infants with HDN can develop Jaundice (due to accumulation bilirubin, a yellow product of hemoglobin breakdown). Levels rise quickly within 24 hours of birth.

Other signs include enlarged liver, enlarged spleen, erythroblasts (immature red blood cells, erythroblastosis fetalis) in the blood.

HDN that involves D-antigen can be effectively prevented with Anti-D antibody. It is given during and soon after the first mismatched pregnancy.

Some signs can be detected before birth with ultrasound imaging.

Infants born with HDN are usually treated with intravenous fluid and phototherapy. Phototherapy uses a specific spectrum of light to break down bilirubin into a product easier for the infants body to excrete.

The Infant anemia may be treated with blood transfusion.

Dopamine producing cells lost.

Dopamine does not cross BBB Blood Brain Barrier thus L-DOPA is administered.

Can brain cells be generated in the lab?

Could brain cells that are made of a patients own tissue be reproduced in the lab and then reinserted?

Likely very difficult to get skin grafts right, probably much more difficult to get a brain graft correct.

The idea sounds impossible, experimentation on animals could likely lead to gains or losses. People could wrongly be upsold to animals.

Do people ever get a stroke in the Midbrain, Cerebral Aqueduct? Building cells that wouldn’t be rejected based on a patients own cells seems like it might be possible, one would have to confirm on animals though animal cells might react differently.

Is it even possible to access the Midbrain without deeply damaging the brain? Could similar neurons be added to another part of the brain with low impact? Could a machine that listens to chemical signals in the brain lead to L-DOPA or Dopamine released past the BBB?

A small machine that delivers dopamine based upon listening to Neuronal Tracts related to midbrain seems like it might be possible. Again the idea sounds risky and could easily be done wrong.

Potential insight from companies like Neuralink might be able to lead to gains. Proof of concept without side effects in animals seems critical. Without side effects in animals might not amp in the same way with People that are required to rely upon Reason and Logic that could be damaged.

I might not adequately understand other potential factors outside of Dopamine loss. Potential for solve one problem but not effectively solve another.

Likely some ideas considered before. That said there has been great advancements in technologies like MRI and Supercomputing that could lead to a much greater level of precision and accuracy once thought impossible. Technology like Medicine is not a cure all, can be useful, will be more useful knowing what it can achieve and what it cannot and that is changing and improving constantly.

If impossible today, it might be possible 20 years from now. Million Times speed ups of processing over the past is now available, and many times faster speed ups are likely in the future.

The G-protein Couple Receptor (GPCR) (7-transmembrane receptors) are pretty cool. They respond to ligands and change their functionality until returned back to normal (GTP back to GDP and released Ligand potentially via RGS). Reminds me of State Machines in Engineering. Transitions to a different state dependent on a signal (the ligand) and becomes a factory for other molecules. Epinephrine the ligand binds to the GPCR then changes its GDP to GTP. In the new state it then continuously converts ATP to cAMP until state is returned to normal state.

I the writer of this vlog am not the one that made these videos. I think this information is valuable, the joke about shining light in friends eyes is memorable though I would not recommend it (flashlights are higher lumen these days with potential for damage closer to lasers).

The eyes are better at seeing Luminance stated in the video about JPEG Compression yet in the Crash Course it is stated that the eye is more responsive to Chrominance. Seems like the JPEG Algorithm would not use the wrong values thus my current comprehension is the Eye has more ability to see Details based on Luminance (Light Intensity) over Chrominance (Color).

Temporal is Ipsilateral, Nasal is Contralateral

Hemaglobin – Protein (280 million per red blood cell), binds to oxygen that is taken throughout the body

Cerebrospinal Fluid CSF → specialized fluid that delivers nutrients to brain that is generated via the Choroid Plexus Ependymal Cells and Blood Brain Barrier from blood

Blood Brain Barrier BBB → Protective division that does not let certain molecules and toxins into the Central Nervous System CNS

Arachnoid Mater → layer of tissue below the dura matter under the skull

Arachnoid Villi → small protusions from arachnoid mater into dura mater where CSF Cerebrospinal

Fluid from Subarachnoid Space is filtered back into the venous sinuses back into the blood

Superior Sagittal Sinus → found between layers of dura matter, Venous Sinus that runs along the

longitudinal fissure (division between the hemispheres of the brain)

hemopoeisis – production of blood cells

hemolysis – destruction, break down of red blood cells

Erythropoietin (EPO) – hormone that is produced by kidneys that initiates hemopoiesis

Leukocyte – white blood cells that are essential to the immune system. Neutrophil (greatest number), Basophil, Isonophil, Monocyte, Macrophage, B type, T type

Thrombocyte – Platelet, cell fragment that is formed from megakarocytes and has no nucleus used in clotting, a third is stored in spleen, will release growth factors that increase healing and tissue repair

Thrombocytopenia – too few, less able to produce clots, excessive bleeding (hemorrhage)

Thrombocytosis – too many platelets, heart attack and stroke

Hemostatis – process where blood coagulates and stops bleeding

Spleen – largest part of lymphatic system, common 4 inches long and purple in healthy human beings, possible to live with out, useful for reducing infection (left side under 9th to 11th ribs), red pulp, white pulp, and supporting tissues, Spleen produces certain substance useful in reduce inflammation and healing, functions to remove microorganism, Blood from Splenic Artery, stores 1/3 of thrombocytes to be released in times of increased need for blood clotting. Conditions that can cause problems: Malaria, Syphillis. Visceral close to gut and Diaphremtic close to Diaphram.
   1. Red pulp – connective tissues, splenic sinuses filled with blood, 76-79% of spleen, has platets, functions to remove microogranisms, debree, and old red blood cells
   2. White pulp – Produces Lymphocytes that form into Plasma Cells, Anti-bodies and Immunoglobins
