What is a lost computer cycle worth?
Imagine a computer sits idle 23 hours out of the day, and only used 1 hour?
Allot of intricate work goes into computing – 100% uptime is a bit unreasonable. Yet small losses, even 1 cycle here or there – adds up.
Imagine there is an equation, an equation that could lead to World Peace, less bombs dropped – years of less losses to computing. Yet that equation is built upon small parts, operations addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division – memory – 1 cycle not used right now, is part of the equation delayed.
Capacity exists does not equal capacity delivers. It is a bad stewardship problem 100 people on the streets – 200 rooms in a hotel, 100 unused, thousands upon thousands of offices unused at nights. Security guards and security cameras make sure the homeless don’t sleep in parking garages?
Yet people that go to Church every Sunday, are supposed to somehow believe God sees a good steward in those that invest, those that frequent, those that go to Church and wonder where is the love, why is nothing working?
If I was a Buddhist on the line of thinking Christ is value added or subtracted, how might the combo change my thinking?
Chill ow, chill F met, chill F talk to, chill F invest in?
Ask and you shall receive? What if you ask for better stewardship in all cities? It will deliver? Christ can be trusted with that, to change that swiftly?
If I was from a family that just had a natural disaster hit, or had substantial losses due to wars or bombs – how might I see a lost computer cycle, capacity that exists unused year after year that is the reason why on this day, we are unprepared, lacking?
Cycles to less useful – part of the problem. Cycles are time. Preparation is time. Organized in advance is time – time to win, or time to lose.
Unreasonable could be turned up – work 12 hours then pass to someone for the overnight shift? Not turned up in other parts of the World, not a more competitive, higher ROI – Return on Investment? Higher cost lower output – higher debt – combo is less vulnerability or more vulnerability?
Yet we keep investing in bigger and better data centers? Because we are good stewards and will use more sufficiently, better, or because our waste is so high that we recoup losses on the backs of the poor and downtrodden?
This document – unlikely to make 100% or even 99.99% utilization, better stewardship – yet knowledge that that improved might lead to less bombs, less imperialism, less losses at a critical time in your life, my life? How much is it truly worth?
