The Pope made a comment about changing ourselves.
I don’t want to alienate a Christian brother, judgments and rebukes sometimes have the potential to do that. Of course if he doesn’t see me as a real brother I can’t fully blame him as I don’t agree with him on everything.
Leaders need power to do good. Authorities life made harder is not all good. Sometimes letter of the law matters, and as mercy and love are part of letter of the law, sometimes other parts of the law might matter less – at least in my personal opinion.
I believe in personal responsibility and I also believe in injustice matters. If I don’t solve it nobody will – some truth and untruth in that. If someone builds a faulty bridge and it collapses on top of me, I don’t have control over it and the injustice matters. On the flip side if I choose not to read everyday because injustice is real and prevalent in society, my reading skills which might help me succeed in life won’t be as keen.
If a priest thought “if I don’t solve it nobody will” – they might not be trained in engineering, they could break something. Yet that same mentality might lead to a bridge never visited – collective divestment from responsibility that leads to problems. Christ of send someone lesser is not all pretty. Golden Rule do you want to be required to be in all places at one? Personal Responsibility might feel like you have to fix more than you can, like God won’t deliver for self or others at times.
