I am thinking about how to add value to the World. There is a common problem. People like to help, people are only partially enabled, yet people don’t always know where to add value or when to add value.
Thoughts of the song by Eminem “if you only had one shot”. One shot is a common idea in gaming, only takes one shot to win. One shot might be seen as an OP (Over Powered) dynamic, too powerful, win in one hit is like going to a heavy weight match and only seeing one punch. People value the fight, things that take longer than instant. A movie about climbing Everest would be less interesting if all it showed was an instant teleport to the top – there are also reasons to devalue the instant because it might not take into account the dangers like reduced oxygen, the value in training and hard work.
Things take longer than instant has potential for value and less value at times. If you are facing injustice – the longer it takes to have the injustice stop the potential for more losses due to the injustice. Imagine you have an engineer that builds bridges (I don’t build bridges, just an example) that is unjustly put in jail. The longer the injustice remains the less bridges built, less bridges for future generations to walk across in the future. The longer the injustice remains – the valuable citizen, whatever their profession might be might be less able to call out problems in their particular field. There is losses in injustice, losses in injustice are not always talked about, are not always factored in later, are not always part of the paper trail, might partially factor into reduced comprehension and greater leverage, oppression, and injustice for others.
Value creation is not the easiest problem – there are many potential ways people have capacity to add value in the World. Paint a peace sign might have more value than words at times, words and the right document might have more value than a painting at times. Both are forms of action, forms of action that might be the right path or might need more support in other ways. Fix everything except for cyber security and the right document or right painting might never be seen by those in need – just one example of different forms of action and value creation factor into and facilitate value creation.
Combine that with the idea of free will and each day has potential. Forgive the right person, grace the right person, encourage the right person might lead to exponential gains not always thought of as possible. I like engineering, I like win wins – people don’t generally build bridges for one person to cross. Engineering as a metaphor for value creation of others in any profession or field, problems solved in ways that I appreciate yet am unlikely to always fully comprehend.
