People like to Forget

I was alive during September 11th, 2001. I was not in the military. I am from a military family. I am from lived in Dallas, TX at the time thus I was not in New York City or The Pentagon. I was not a direct victim of the attack.

That said I and many others in this country were a victim. Having your future if-ed on should you join the military and go to war when you just join college? It is a nice feeling? No. Knowing there might be the potential for a Middle Eastern citizen witch hunt while trying to decide if God is real or not and a Church that says Love your enemy (kind of questionable). It is a nice feeling? No.

I agreed with the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Why? What was done on 9/11 couldn’t happen again? Chemical weapons and weapons of mass destruction couldn’t be used against the American public? I had access to classified data that might change my view for or against? No. There is a certain level of trust, there is a certain level of have to trust others with that especially from someone in engineering field. Just because I drive a car does not equate to I know how the engine works, I trust it will work, won’t blow up on me, and those that have helped provide it to me have done their due diligence.

That said, all this is forgotten in 2025 it feels like. Cybersecurity problems and people messing with me on repeat gets justified and allowed by a government that fails to protect me on the common, while the World has still yet to settle from threats and problems. October 7th, 2023 should be enough reason not to screw with me, not screw with me in a way that puts me on the street.

Was it enough for someone that invests in World Peace? No. God says blessed are the peacemakers. If I feel that doesn’t deliver will I want to continue to try and make peace? I don’t want bombs dropping over anyone’s head – F I think the past has enabled access to that in ideal ways. How do we get to a future where everyone has access to no bombs dropping over their heads? When we forget so swiftly, so readily?

Have people you know about to be sent to the desert where they might drive over an IED feels good? No. A government iffy on fully funding military and armored protection feels all good? No. Partially in and partially supported, hedged bet with people you care about lives on the line. Good reasons and data I don’t have that might equate to less than 100% gung-ho on going in does not equate to it is all good, easy to forget.
