We are required on a personal level to minimize bad and maximize good.
Thinking that we A mins, minimization seems unwise.
If I have lights on, I am using Electricity. Could I have used a small LED flashlight to achieve the same result? Wasteful or not wasteful, capitalizing or not capitalizing on less-than-ideal value established and delivered? Convenience, ease of use, and experience factor into Encouragement, Encouragement not worthy of entertaining as vital?
The Bible has a requirement for perfection that I think has the potential to be paralyzing.
The road people drive to Church on, to work on, guaranteed to have zero oppression factored into the creation and installation? If I was going for perfection, I would ideally want my throughput not to be based upon oppression.
Finding out who built the roads, when the roads were built, what they were paid, if they were oppressed or not, likely to amplify ideal comprehension in combination? Perfection really possible?
Time is a resource, consider it used in perfect ways, helping A not helping B, helping B not helping A, and that is not all C delivered on.
Society has tendency towards, we A knows, knowledge, A mins, minimizations and that factors into High Ground, who gets to deliver laws, who gets to follow them, and who is broken by the system, the less-than-ideal value established in the system. Society doesn’t A know, A comprehend, and that factors into Society does not always A mins. Comprehension of law amplifies less than ideally is a profit based system. A case to be made that isn’t always made?
Tolerances too tight can reduce throughput, 4 ft wide door or could we get away with 2 ft wide door? Wider doors might be useful for greater throughput in fires, extra thoughts in decision making do not always ideal decision making.
Helps A and then B equates to perfection I think is not something we want to turn up by default. Be perfect, not perfect equates to sin (James 4:17), equates to man is always in sin, gives high ground for constant punishment? I would let you call out my imperfections, yet maybe should call out yours instead is likely a thought that might be turned up. We set each other to Villains from less-than-ideal High Ground? Time is a system with directional trajectories, punishment is one direction of time, encouragement and support is another.
The past seen as A’s owe, A’s know factors into capacity to punish. A thought, I am not a preacher, I am a Christian, that said I wouldn’t know if there were problems in the Church like Salem Witch trials. Divestment in advance might not always lead to ideal visibility and comprehension, prevention of zealous punishment. People from that time might have decided to divest as well, be in the crowd and realize shit is going south and unable to do anything about it?
As far as I can tell people don’t get punishment perfect, don’t get support and encouragement perfect, and as James 4:17 says
Golden Rule amplification is LTI (less-than-ideal) is consequential. Things do need to be corrected though, say a system of government keeps someone who sentence is supposed to be 1 year in Jail for 5 years? The system doesn’t get punished for oppression not ideal value established. I wouldn’t know if our system is doing that or not, was just an example, though even if the system is not holding people for excessive periods of time (which I think they are at times) there is likely potential for other oppression that if not addressed could be detrimental. Orange jump suits and hourglass of people’s lives thrown against the wall might not equate to sufficient Golden Rule.

What God allows and does not allow is relevant. Allowed October 7th, 2023 this close after September 11th, 2001. Allowing Ukraine this close after Cold War. Allowed WW2 not far after the US Civil War. We have a tendency to think in the past, that is over, Salem Witch trials problem might be more likely than we a society of computers, and future tech might want to admit. Possibly something worthy of consideration for future engineers, God doesn’t seem to ideal oppression reduction reduced capacity to turn something meant to help people like a car into tanks. I created a gear, I meant it for good.
Engineers create components with teeth that might be less than ideal value for future at times? Should an engineer that creates a gear be set to perfect, or should the person taught don’t judge that judges be set to perfect? While I would not like to assess the perfection or imperfection of self, I would like to assess that gears have potential for value added and subtracted.
Man learns to fly, could have used it to feed the world – yet as history shows us? Imagine if we used all that explosive to excavate land for hydroponic skyscraper farms (not sure who had the idea originally, seems high value added for decreasing world hunger) instead of bombs, landmines? More useful, sustaining value not always entertained on World stage over war? Maybe when I am in Heaven God will let me know why He allows so much oppression in the world – kind of puts a big damper on engineering gains. Maybe all engineers just need degrees in international relations and peacemaking as well as an offset, hedging of the bet so to speak. Gear gets set to 100% of engineering and material cost, maybe 10% for gear, 90% for peacemaking required to let it be useful, less damaging?
As an engineer, artist, and blogger I have injected non-null non-zero amounts of complexity into the world. Less oppression in the world factors into complexity as value added instead of as value subtracted.
