There are a lot of people that matter outside of our country. Sales on the international market factor into capacity to protect both self and loved ones. Peace limited factors into reduced capacity and reduced head starts.
Profit is more than just money. Capacity to share including lessons, medical advice, and support has potential to enable others in the World potentially greatly yet gets reduced by the politics of the day.
People set reduced profit (that is more than just money) including international trade and international relations to less value in tumultuous political times. How I profit, if I profit, how much my profit matters, who my profit matters to all gets set to less value.
People might claim A-see yet fail to factor in losses that are in by design on the world stage. Losses are substantial for both self and others by the artificial barriers we throw up when we reduce capacity to communicate and if the ground on deal with do not deal with.
Imagine we make gains, and we get hard-nosed and decide not to share those gains with the World community. Countries are watching, when they make gains will they share with us? A self at peak might not be all value added for staying at the peak.
