Really meaning the light ray to be a bit brighter like glint, toggling wave texture under shader tab might help. There was a pretty slick Blender tutorial that I watched while creating the electrical sparks Blender project that might be helpful, showed superhero powers using shader to make really bright parts of the effect.

In the spirit of useful contrast, figure I would add some videos about cancer research. The above content is free, the following two videos are not free as I don’t own them, I like the art in Kurzgesagt videos, using art to cure cancer likely not always fully pondered.
