I am not a lawyer, some of my thoughts as a Texas citizen.
Greater Resolution Video recording has potential for amplifying new problems in society. Things in the background like Licenses plates that might be obfuscated on lower resolution video might now be a problem – just because laws might not have caught up to full implications of technology does not equal real problems that aren’t addressed might not become common place in hard to appreciate or comprehend kind of ways. I am not sure law always keeps pace with technology.
Trying to do right by others is greater than just following the law – following the law might help others yet it does not guarantee ideal support. Having new technology and not using it could stifle technology companies, could leave the public unprepared for future problems. Videos taken today factor into and facilitate potentially less bugs and less problems in technology and laws revolving around technology that might factor into surveillance that stops crime 10 years, 20 years, even 100 years from now.
Head starters matter and access to technology like Drones and using Video Cameras, Cameras in the right way seems like potential for less than ideally turned up. I purchased a smartphone does not require me to be reminded of Texas recording laws (not to say a reminder is potentially all value added for all parties when many of the laws are surrounding lewdness rather than where it is ok and where it is not ok to film).
Laws that talk about genitalia might be less than ideal tests and temptations amplified, extra temptations on mass scale (every one buying smartphones) might be problematic. I know not to film up women’s dresses, yet if that were a reminder on everyone’s smartphone everyday, potential for problems. Laws that protect privacy and decency matter and could be more ideally turned up, yet I am not sure what ideally would be, as commenting on it is less than ideal temptations reduced.
People have access to greater technology on a massive scale yet are less than ideally informed on their laws in ways that could lead to legal problems and potential financial loss seems less than ideal less than sufficient in some ways.
