Teaching Self
There are many people in the World that would like to help improve learning and access to information for others. Without the structure of a classroom and syllabus ability and motivation to learn can be lessened, can be made harder though not impossible. Learning is not always easy. An appreciation for working through obstacles and hard problems is valuable for gains.
Instructors come and go. Life changes in ways that can limit mobility and access to resources and structured course work. Learning how to learn, Learning how to teach self and how to stay motivated in more difficult situations has potential to lead to a large return on investment in times that are less difficult.
Deferring learning to Teachers and Professors has the potential to enable greater Throughput, sometimes at the cost of details. Is the Teacher or Professor truly invested in getting the students to learn the content in a way that will add practical value to their lives, or are they invested in getting the student to just pass tests? Tests passed can lead to greater value creation at some future point might not always lead to ideal investment in actual learning, throughput of useful practical knowledge. If learned content is useful, practical, and can be used in everyday life it has the potential for more valued, more valued is more memorable. Valued and Memorable might be less than ideally invested in when relying on Teachers and Professors versus fighting for the hard won gains of learning by teaching self and overcoming steep learning curves like limited domain knowledge and vocabulary.
People and Students have potential for taught reliance, reliance has the potential to amp less than sufficiently when an instructor or teacher might not be conveying the knowledge as easily comprehendible as others in the past. A Good Teacher might equal harder time, less practice with self learning that can lead to a harder time with a Teacher that might convey comprehension less than ideally. Good Teachers have a lot of value to add, learning from how they teach and drawing upon that power to teach self has potential for a lot of value added when that Teacher is no longer available to help.
Better Reading Comprehension, Better Search, Better Compare and Contrast, Better Categorization and Classification, Humility to realize Basics can Change and be Updated in Valuable ways that can improve throughput and comprehension all have potential and all have potential for appreciated less than sufficiently as time and complexity increases. Processes and Tools around learning such as Reading Comprehension are depedent upon consistent Throughput over time. One can decide 6 months from now to start Reading more, one that spends every day reading 10 pages for 6 months now has 30*6 = 180, 180 * 10 pages = 1800 pages of improved reading comprehension, pattern matching, practice with language and more practice with process and appreciation for Throughput. Self that decides to start reading 6 months from now is unlikely to have the same Throughput, the same appreciation for Throughput that one that has been reading 10 pages a day would have. Having improved potential in Learning and Processes around learning 6 months from now is possible yet far from a given, the phrase “don’t use it potential for losing it” seems to ring true.
One truth has remained consistent throughout life, the need to learn and raise comprehension will continue to be required in a World full of dangerous invisible electricity and limited High Voltage signs. The need to learn likely will grow with time, as time tends to grow complexity, from no light bulbs and power lines to light bulbs and power lines that we rely on for everyday use. Power increases with time, Complexity increases with time does not guarantee comprehension of Dangers will always amplify sufficiently. Life has a tendency to amp in ways where we solve one problem without always accounting for side effects. Full Dangers of New Technologies are not always known or comprehended early on, and there is motive for companies to limit comprehension of possible dangers as those dangers have the potential to limit profits and throughput.
6 Months from Now an Amazing New Invention is Released that is likely to enable many in not fully comprehendible ways. There is a safety manual that is released along with the invention that has potential to mitigate many of the very dangerous risks that are inherent in a set of situations involving the invention. The Businessmen and Engineers have enabled Throughput while attempting to mitigate the risks to safety less than ideally. Trying to mitigate risks ideally is nearly impossible. The Businessmen and Engineers are trying to enable Throughput like as if they gave you a New Car. A New Car has many risks, not all of which would be known to the user. Desire to enable Throughput does not always call out and mitigate risks ideally or potentially even sufficiently in many cases. The Car Manufacturer could release improved safety videos, improved defensive driving videos but how often do you see that, who will have access to those videos and to what extent?
Someone that has practiced reading 10 pages for the last 6 months likely has more potential for getting through a 10 page safety manual than someone who has deferred improving their reading skills over time. Who reads the safety manuals factors into Risks Actually Mitigated versus Theoretically Mitigated. Just because liability can be protected does not equal the public will ideally be protected. Improved Reading Comprehension and Learning is something society has the potential for benefiting from in Not Fully Appreciated ways. The businessmen and engineers might be able to win the legal case does not equal their throughput wouldn’t be higher with less accidents and less missed risk mitigation.
