Different Utopia Thought Experiment

Thought Experiment: warning these are experimental ideas that might or might not be useful. I am thinking through them myself should not be seen as ideal or refined.

Imagine a society where everyone works for 2 weeks, and then lives out on the street or in parks for 2 weeks.  Then they do that all year round.

In this Utopia you can’t keep property and land except for the 2 weeks you are working. Thoughts on Matthew 19:21 and how it might change society.

You go from luxury, safety, and normal as family to having to rely upon others and the safety net of society to do right by both yourself and your family.

People are more generous because they know they are on a two week alternating schedule as well.  Maybe capped bank accounts – prevents people from thinking they can ideal the future, a future where they don’t have to rely upon others, can factor out the importance of others by default.

Generosity moves from something that is chosen at whim to a survival mechanism.  This is not all pretty, not all altruism added.

Why people might not want to invest in a society like this?  Safety, comfort, risk, convenience.  A society like this might be less status quo – people say that want things changed, want things to be different, but is that really the truth, is that really what will be invested in, is it really wise to tell others that it will work or might work?

If a Church tells to amplify Matthew 19:21 for someone’s daughter without testing the safety nets themselves, have they really done her a favor?  Sell everything you own and follow Christ – reminder that while Christians might look similar to Christ they aren’t Christ – details matter in who and hasn’t fallen short of the glory of God.

There are songs like Price Tag, Thrift Shop, and Cheap Thrills.  Is that really the society we amplify?  That money matters less than people’s souls, doing right by each other?  Or is truth we don’t do right by people, are unlikely to do right by people, might be unwise us to see us as will do right by people?

More thoughts on the experiment.  I am not sure how you would regain property at the end of two weeks.  Two weeks would be exhausting.  Yet I would say if someone wanted to grab a water bottle and sit next to a Penthouse for two weeks, maybe they should enjoy it for two weeks.

Would society know each other more or less in this society?  Would society have more business interactions or less business interactions? There would likely be gains for camping and public sanitation – people might have health problems addressed that otherwise would not be.  Have some doctors and nurses on the street – might be some people that know how to solve problems closer to the problems at lower cost (ambulances are expensive).  Reduced healthcare costs not something worth refining?

Might be single people more protected, might be families that worked together more less overworked, might make people less afraid of the community more willing to trust God with their future.  Yet all the satellites in the World seeing this society, this society that is less efficient yet possibly happier won’t want to be enslaved and taken over by other countries?

For example?  Choose wisely?

Make it mean something, that is always better – True or False?

A gift of words has ideal paths, will inspire ideal thought, will inspire ideal less tests and tempts?

I like music – I can likely think of many songs that might be the wrong words at the wrong time – not because the artist wrote them that way, but because songs are played at businesses, on cds in ways that could look bad, generate the wrong impression.

As a musician you painstakingly put work into a funeral ballad but then because someone is up to no good, your finally crafted work is played at someone’s wedding which you happen to be at.

A cool song about turning the radio up – less mother may I and more pow.  Yet the song is being turned up over human rights or a neurosurgeons lecture before they are going to operate on you.

Words and songs can lead you down the wrong path – it is likely not your intention, likely not my intention, likely not others intention, and likely not God’s intention at least from what I know about Him.  There is safety in collective divestment from responsibility – not all safety.

There is potential in letting an artist publish a work – hopefully this is used for good.

Cybersecurity has potential hopefully potential used for good.

Access to solar batteries, panels, and other cheaper micro mobility options like e scooters and e bikes that might increase mobility is lower price on Amazon at times.

That said if you are homeless, you are limited on package sizes. So if I want to invest in a nice solar power station like Jackery 2000 or similar, – heavy big packages having more money means you can. Having less money makes it an annoying process hopefully get a hotel room that will allow sending 100lb packages or pay the premium at local retailers?

Less delivery workers breaking their back is good, less access to high quality devices for the less fortunate really not full amplification of the value and gains in engineering. There is society that claims to want to do right by the poor, those in hard situations and those that actually do right by them.

Reducing access to power for me and others like me profits some more than others.

Maybe there are other options I am unaware of – Golden Rule, put someone on the street and limit their ability to compete at every turn? It is just business, worthy of redistributing to others, doesn’t set non ideal precedent? Likely is more complicated than all that – I don’t mind other people launching, but don’t claim you can keep me down at every turn and claim it doesn’t look like a gross icing cherry on top for engineers prone to hubris.

Getting a 130W from my 3 mobile 60W solar panels today – free energy from the sun, get a taste for it then not deliver? 130W is enough for me, free air conditioning, no pricey standing desks… sure we shouldn’t redistribute for all?

Exact Math

Being right is not always good.  God said mercy will be given to the merciful.

One trying not to reinforce right might be ok with

2+2=3

Or

2+2=5

Or they might be trying to give you a square deal and say

2+2=4

Imagine 4 mistakes are the punishment threshold – 2+2=3 is all bad?

Imagine the cost for food is $5 and you only have $2 and $2 in quarters – 2+2=5 is all bad?

Everything has to add up might not be all mercy and grace added.

A lot of money goes into city planning which requires a lot of math.  Yet city planning like where bridges are built profit a part of society and does not always profit the rest of society.  It could be argued likely it reduces traffic and gives jobs to certain builders and local businesses.  Think better of others, the math in those bridges, buildings, or infrastructure wants to help and not hurt society – like reduce oppression, reduce homelessness, and reduce heartache.  Yet do we apply less exact math, more merciful and graceful math as would be intended as an offset?
