Less Evil in the World

A document read has the power to kill, or the power to save a life.  Hopefully this document is the kind that helps people and doesn’t hurt people.

What is evil and what is not is an important question.  I am not a moral authority.  Some people might set The Vatican or other Churches, Religions to a moral authority in the World.  While being protestant I don’t believe The Vatican is the moral authority on all matters, I do believe they have the potential to get some things right I don’t get right.  I also believe that I and others have potential to get some things right they don’t get right.

Any man or woman, any entity like The Catholic, Baptist, and Methodist Church have a certain amount of good they do for the world, and also being human or compromised of humans have a certain amount of sin they add to the world.  It would be nice to say no churches or religions, no people add any sin to the world, that sin added to the world is not consequential and has no potential to change the future.

A priest in 500 AD, 1000AD, or 1500AD could have all sinned, likely to have at least sinned once in their life.  Just because Christ and God forgives them does not equate to sin doesn’t have the potential to ripple forward through time – we could still be feeling the fallout of those sins – yet since we believe in a good God, one that loves and forgives, we might think we can set those sins to no effect.  Further we are called not to judge which makes tracing root causes of problems more difficult – the past is just the past is non-consequential to how we got here might not be ideal cause and effect established.

I will likely get somethings right and somethings wrong in this document.  I have spelled some things right, made comprehensible sentences – some right might wrongly establish all as right, like a chalkboard full of math equations and one says 2+2=4 – partial proof of right might not equate to right, sufficiently right.

Thoughts on evil and what is evil.  Evil is not nice, not nice to have as part of the world, is consequential, and its very existence factors into less than ideal ability to factor in what it is and what it is not.  Evil could be a page full of lies, or could be a perfectly crafted document with one line that is set to a lie by trying to or not trying to, by a typo, a wrong word, or a miscommunication.  Careless might not produce ideal results and careful might not produce ideal results and less than ideal results might be evil.

I am a man which means my documents have the same potential for flaws.  People and entities that are less than ideal perfection have potential to add value to the world.  That said wrongly set to perfectly reliable support, has no potential to be changed for the better, no potential for making mistakes seems unwise, could turn up miscommunication and misinterpretation and thus evil.

Some thoughts come to mind with the word Evil, like injustice, dehumanization, wrath, envy, and strife.  Chaos and lawlessness, disorder also come to mind, inability to rely and inability to trust.  A World with less evil – would ideally be a world where those words are less necessary.  Said, number of times words are said might be a gauge for what is going right in society and what is not.  Yet in societies where Freedom of Speech doesn’t exist, that gauge might be missing.  Leverage and oppression, also words I associate with injustice, might fuel injustice that is unsaid.

Why do I not want to be the moral authority?  I don’t, won’t live forever – a man that lives less than 100 years with a mind that is constantly changing and adapting to new circumstances might be less rock than relying on long established traditions, traditions that have weathered centuries of storms literal and figurative.  That said moral authorities have been associated with some terrible things in history – like witch burnings – and in a day where technology is so prevalent – when things can be controlled wirelessly – being wrongly set to a witch, profit in false accusations are real concerns.

It would be nice to see days of World Peace, Love, and Hope for the Future.  Less evil factors into that.  Discerning what is and what is not evil facilitates capacity to reduce it.  Evil is a time abyss, it devours one’s time to see, comprehend and stop other evil.  Thus less evil in advance facilitates capacity to reduce evil in advance.  Evil does not want time valued, because time valued has potential to give greater support for less injustice.  Hand cuff all the people doing good and watch society crumble – possible or not possible, plausible or not plausible scenario?

Forgiveness, Grace, Less Miscommunication, less inspiration of distrust, less uncaring about injustice and hopelessness, encouraging the broken hearted.  All of these are potential time savers, might lead to greater support at critical times.  Organization and cleanliness in advance is power – one less trip has power, easy capacity to access things at critical times is not always turned up in advance – time savers.  Time saved, more enabled matters.  Time with a good compass, and one that doesn’t degrade its own capacity is powerful.
