Music as an Enabler

I don’t want the lyrics of music I listen to for encouragement set as ideal leadership for the world.

Lyrics of songs are part of freedom of speech, yet part of the problem is what sounds good and works in songs is not always what would be acceptable to say in real life.

God told us to not judge, not condemn.  That leads to challenges listening to music – if we judge part of a work (a set of words) taken out of context – we might say throw the entire artist’s collection away.  It seems like we are constantly required to make a decision – promote and like the artist on work that is a subset of ideal (less than ideal) or throw it all away because it does not meet perfection.  I don’t really like those options, feel like those options are an ideal enabler.

I can’t say I like the idea of what a leader listens to off the clock as a way to judge a leader, the value in a leader, whether a leader should be followed or set to a bad influence.  Imagine you like listening to heavy metal for working out, yet you can’t hear all the words or really understand all the words of a song – their output, you didn’t correct it, left for future generations – set to an ideal leader?

I don’t like the idea of music being like a landmine.  It might be more true in a day where one accesses music through a lens like YouTube these days.  If all library books were only accessible through a digital site, like CDs to current listening then it would be much easier for governments, governments that claim freedom of speech and inclusivity of ideas to profile and catalog, set persons or portions of society to less useful.

Can a leader like a boxing match?  Might lead to concussions.  Can a leader like American Football?  Might lead to concussions.  Yet liking something that is in popular culture has high potential for set to better, safer, more relatable, more reliable.  Safer turned down likely factors into who is available for less than ideally safe jobs later in life.  Football might foster the same mindsets that turn up police (wins at the potential cost of physical pain) which might be why we can walk so many streets safe in society.

Deferred judgment, desire not to condemn has not lead to ideal comprehension of music or comprehension of music’s potential.  Music I might like as party music or part of a club is not music I want leading self, or future generations.  Like a movie I try to make a distinct separation – villains can exist in movies, they make the hero shine, thus they are part of the content.  I do not want to be a villain, I do not want the words of songs as a gauge for my or others leadership capacity – yet I can’t say it would be easy to ideally factor it out, or not want to factor it in.  I also think that people not talking about this in society, with leadership is a potential way to be less Golden Rule for leaders and fellow citizens.

If music is rope, rope that can help you climb a mountain, or rope that can be used to hang you in the future – how much will society give you, as much as you need?  Capacity to be limited, have your future limited based on investments in art is not all pretty.  Like if you walked through an art museum and based upon your angle (taken from cameras in the building) profiled, and set you to less valuable.  Imagine if that happened, or happens while walking through the Vatican.

All that said, music, music that we listen to might lead to people that are prone to judgment to desire to date us or higher us less.  It could be used as grounds to see us as not all in, not all a part of the group, desirable for testing, less loss if we are lost.  Add in that “all is fair in love and war” gets turned up, competing men might see their fellow man’s song list and say – they are not a valid human being, she should date me instead.  Maybe they need her to see better days, make better choices including about what songs to listen to, but devalued in advance is useful, profit and not truly caring about the loss is valuable.

Granted it is worth also mentioning that we turn up the negative in society that is not all pretty. If you are ready and available people don’t value you, yet if you have multiple job offers companies might want you more, might see you more valued when valued by others.  This leads to the paradoxical effect where danger and less invested in the future seems less grabby and suffocating than safe, loving, and available.  Would be nice to think life, choices, and better are more than a product of gimmick on sales – yet motorcycles, rock music, and American Football sells.  Just a Church goer might be boring, boring might not sell, yet boring might not turn up some of the dangers, might not re-amplify some of the same dangers in music for current and future generations based upon technology at a future date that Is unknown in a world that likes to tuning fork, experiment, and profile.

I like music.  I want music I provide and listen to to be an enabler for self and others.  I do not want music I listen to to be the grounds to hurt any other human being or turn up a culture that hurts others.  I realize like with action and tanks in movies this has potential to be a double edged sword, a reminder to increase military power leads to standing armies – because we really haven’t found a better way to limit imperialism in the future.

It is a hard problem.  How we talk about it, how we address it likely has potential to save lives in the future.  How we talk about it and address it also factors into Freedom of Speech, and further whose lives are saved, and whose souls are saved speaking from a Christian perspective. It is consequential, more consequential than one would like for someone that learns piano at a young age.  Not nice to have implications created based upon something you love, turned into a weapon against self and others at a later date.

How we treat others, Golden Rule is important, has shown less than ideal historic precedent for turned up ideally over time – yet it factors into what music is created, listened to, and judged on a common basis.  Worthy of reminder not all people in Society are Christian, not all people in American, USA Society are Christian, not all people in Society agree that The Golden Rule is a good thing, has sufficient output, is worth turning up in society or schools – and not all music listeners or music creators are Christians and that is consequential to what ideas get more oxygen and what ideas get less oxygen.

Love your neighbor – are you ideally turning up a world that will value the right kind of music?  Might be less wind in the sails for riots later – yet not always the easiest thing to gauge, trying to limit freedom of speech doesn’t always fan it less.  Surface area and up, right-ed for society, with James 4:17 – claim to know ideally when, claim to be ideal sin out with the level of action versus complicity?

People judge, people judge what is created, people set to will judge what is created in ideally altruistic ways that is not profit based seems like an unwise assumption.  Combination might lead to more appreciation for Don’t judge as a concept seen as valuable, less discernment, which has both good qualities and qualities that might not ideal less investment by others.  I don’t perfect that and I don’t want it to hurt others in the future. I don’t perfect who reads this and who doesn’t, in an ideal world I could, in an ideal world I would, should? Might be reading how to read cancer instead of reading this. I think this is valuable, might not be as valuable as learning how to cure cancer – directionality and time costs.

These concepts always take a back seat to medicine unwise as well, might be how drugs at concerts with words that are hypnotic get turned up. “Symptoms we got a cure for that, side effects that change how words are comprehended? Root cause, that is none of our concern.” – worthy of note these words are e.g., for example, nobody actually said these words
