August 15th, 2025 – Present is where we want it to be, Future isn’t where we are going

Present is where we want it to be, Future isn’t where we are going

Easy to set things to fixed sufficiently non-ideally. Status quo not that bad might not give feeling of really how one wants it to be, but the future will be progress and there is the potential for better days.

The title kind of highlights the present isn’t always ideal, yet we expect the future to be better. Projections are not always ideal – they are built on limited knowledge and a God that likes to throw curveballs.

Everything invented in 2025 will not be the same as everything invented in 2027, 2030, 2045. New inventions bring new potential and potential for new problems. New problems are opportunities at times. Solving problems facilitates future capacity to fix problems. Problems will be different, yet Math has been shown to be useful for many problems – thus practice with Math today is likely to lead to increased capacity to fix problems of the future.

Reading is also useful, writing, communicating – all tools that are likely to be incorporated in one form or the other – while they might have changed over time, the tool set (words used) have generally not rapidly changed in a way that deteriorates problem solving capacity.

Large population in the world equates to Math and Language are common bridges for problem solving – many people rely upon them, use them on a day to day basis to get where they are going. Empowering each other with more capacity now and in the future facilitates the potential for a better future – a future where whatever the problem is we have more potential to see it (or hear it, read it), analyze it, figure out viable solutions (through problem solving and creative problem solving), fix it, then get feedback short term and longer term on how the solution worked – good and bad, to help facilitate problems solved in the future.

I am writing this document on a computer because I do not have a pen. There are pros – I am a faster typist than I am hand writing a document. There are cons – this laptop is meant for more powerful tasks – 3D Graphics and Gaming and thus the battery life is still a bit lacking – potential for gains in power efficiency in the future. I feel like the processor and graphics could be turned down – to a slow rate maybe 1 out of the 12 cores and have speed to give a much better battery life though the OS (Windows 11) might not be able to run that efficiently – not sure if it is a software or hardware problem. The ARM version of Windows might seem like a nice option as an alternative.

There is a certain amount that gets fixed and doesn’t get fixed (which might facilitate sells) – might be because I don’t fully comprehend the constraints yet it seems like a power efficient mobile workstation seems possible though might not be profitable. Seems like Apple hits the sweet spot on that which might be why Apple gets more sales at times.

No product is perfect and there are trade offs – trade offs that if I knew I might not be willing to make. Less battery life has other properties – like if your bank account is low – has capacity to drive what is said, how fast it is said. Might give more time for the day at times – less capacity to be tied to a computer screen – pros and cons. Our World, feeling like you want to make a meaningful contribution might make one feel like if they are not constantly online, investing, then they are moving backwards, won’t have full access and capacity to appreciate future gains.

While typing I am improving my typing skills, reiterating them. While I am writing I am improving my writing skills – or at the very least maintaining the connections in my brain. Easy to discount the value in practice – there is some truth in this World about if you don’t use it you will lose it. That can be compounded by memory loss possibly increased by situations out of one’s control like homelessness. Might sound trite, having something to read, having a tool to write whether computer or pen and paper can keep the brain active – which is useful in times that are uncertain.

My guess is that if I stopped being required to add and subtract – Math – for a 20 year period I might forget how to. I think skills less used are more blunt, doesn’t mean they are gone, yet practiced facilitates readily available and more useful. Luckily it seems at least in 2025 Reading and Math seem to be a part of everyday life at least to a certain extent. Math maybe less so with less access to money.
