If someone pours me a glass of water today and I drink it there is value added by the process. If things change tomorrow, in the future, that does not equate to the glass of water poured today is less value added, of no value added.
What happens if the person that poured me the glass of water is arrested tomorrow, headline news says they are guilty of awful crimes? What happens if the person that poured me the glass of water is found to be a hero tomorrow, headline news say how they saved the world?
A writers words, delivered in a certain environment might be like a glass of water. On a different day they are read they might be viewed as awful. World Events factors into capacity to appreciate, valuation has potential for changed in drastic and not fully appreciated ways. A Godzilla movie might be inspiring one day, then on the day a terrorist attack happens the movie, anything surrounding the movie including writers, producers, actors, and actresses might be set to awful.
Writers might be fair weather writers at times, leverage factors into value established. Readers might be fair weather readers at times, leverage and convenience factors into access and valuation.
Writers that have impacts have potential for being devalued – devaluation of some might be useful to reinforce narrative and power within a system. Who is establishing value and how factors into who profits in society and who does not. If a writer inspires social change, social change that profits some over others, challenges status quo, the writer might be devalued, there might be value seen in devaluing the writer, the communicator, the one inspiring change.
What a writer looks like tomorrow is not ideally turned up, not ideally invested in – healthcare and opportunities have potential to be limited, oppression that factors in is unlikely to be ideally factored in as both perception and comprehension of that oppression is limited, seen as sufficient value added based upon personal experience. Personal experience factors into comprehension of the environment, if I am not oppressed it is harder to fully appreciate the value lost in oppressive systems like communist China. I can’t see it, can’t hear it factors into I can’t see it, can’t hear yet I still think I have capacity to, am required to assess the level of oppression in my own life, in my own environment.
