A man asks another man, manA to go 1 mile to the left. A woman asks the same man, manA at the same time to go 1 mile to the right. Trying to listen to The Bible the man, manA stands still.
I might interpret The Bible, quotes from The Bible in less-than-ideal ways. Profit factors into my interpretation as it does anyone, learn how to pray to not have prayers heard?
Matthew 5:41 – Bible Gateway “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.” – NIV
Specific details matter. If someone says spend 20 years in slavery serving me, reinforcing sin, should one give them 40 years? No.
There are other reasons I can think of to give people double versus just over the line. Imagine you are joining forces with a revolutionary that asks you to go 1 mile with them, if they ask you to go another mile at that point are you really going to turn them down, if you do should you have gone a mile with them in the first place, if you don’t go with them the extra mile will they really be trustworthy in power?
If someone evil demands you to give them your daughter, I would say don’t give them two, don’t give them one. Golden Rule for others matters vs James 4:17 not agreeing with evil equates to sin?
The man, manA knowing he should give both two miles each but could not James 4:17 and was not being perfect knew he had sinned, fallen short of glory of God, in need of repentance? Statistics on confession, like who has confessed for not following give two miles combined with James 4:17, ideally turned up? Statistics, knowns factor into interpretation, and as Matthew 5:41 says?
Gives feeling of see OR more, AND less at times

I felt the image was useful to reinforce the point in the value in de-let
If the public asks you to make a car with seat belts, should you give them anti-lock breaks too? Practical application that is valuable not always entertained. If I felt like less value was sufficient (kind of the just over the line approach) I would not have written the last paragraph.
Everyone at work does double work for their boss. Is that really all Golden Rule for their boss when their boss wants to promote? Is that really all Golden Rule for others that need jobs too?
Please reinforce Matthew 5:41 in ideal ways, I am not sure what double ideal is, I am not sure stacking that burden on the reader is ideal Golden Rule either.
