Writing Notes

Common Writer Pitfalls Notes listening

  1. Dialogue
    1. Too much Dialogue not always Context Amplifying
    2. Wall to Wall Dialogue like treading in Ocean
  2. Scene Function and Filler
    1. Scenes that don’t do anything
    2. Filler Bores Reader
    3. Every Scene should have a function, should juggle a lot of balls
    4. Nothing to advance plot should not be part of book
    5. Taking a shower, tying left shoe and then right shoe, putting on socks
    6. Describe every corner of gym, each square foot of wall paper?
    7. Conflict, more interesting environments that drive plot forward
      1. Dynamic Environments can be a lot of fuel for interesting
  3. Over Writing
    1. Write long paragraphs but saying very little
    2. Clear and Concise Better
    3. Details and Descriptions that seem not needed, wastes reader time?
    4. Enjoyable read or likely to create critical feedback?
    5. Filter words limit I hear, I feel eventA to just eventA, I hear a Comet, or A Comet cuts across the sky
    6. Sloppy Grammar, long excessive sentences with commas semicolons can possibly be replaced with shorter more concise clearer sentences that deliver more bang for buck.
  4. Repetitive Basic Sentence Style
    1. Same sentence construction over and over again
    2. Starting a lot of sentence with “I”s and filter words does not amp ideally
    3. Varied Sentence can be more interesting
      1. They did this. They did that. They did this and that. They did this after that. Not all ideally change variance over time that factors into Interesting and Experience.
  5. Telling
    1. Filler, Insufficient Variance
    2. Interrupts can help, passive narration can be bland
    3. Dialogue can be more interesting than they did this and they did that, telling less thought inspiring than “Look something in the distance” she said. What could it be he thought. “You think it might be a comet?”. Inspiring the reader to think using foreshadowing and dramatic irony can be powerful versus details served directly. I saw a comet it was grand.
